squid game is a south korean show created by Hwang Dong -Hyuk for Netflix, it is a Suvival drama television series about a secret contest where 456 player , who are struggling financially Risk their lives playing a series of kids games with deadly results for the chance of winning 35 million dollars ( i mean who would not risk Their lives for that amount of money ) , the name of the series comes from a popular Korean children game with the same name , the director based the idea on his own economic struggles earlier in his life ( no struggles for him after the massive success of this tv show ) , he started written it back in 2009 but was unable to find a company to produce and fund his work until Netflix showed interest around 2019 in an afford to expand their foreign tv shows . ( 10 years of waiting but it was all worth it ).
the show was release to the word on September 17 , 2021 and it became Netflix most watched series & the top watched program in 94 countries ( in my worthless humble opinion the series did not get the numbers out of nothing it was all deserved ) , the show went on to win multiple awards including the Golden Globe for best supporting actor and award for outstanding performance my a male actor in a drama series & and outstanding performance by a female Actor in a drama series, this was history in the making as it is the first Korean actors to win in those categories ( all deserved brilliant performances by all the cast ), in June 2022 , the series announced a second season to be lunched late 2023 or early 2024 . usually the sequels are not as good as the original but i'm highly excited to watch this one.
2: STRANGER THINGS ( 1.35 billion views)
stranger things is a television series created by the buffer brothers ( never heard of them before) it is an American science fiction horror drama ( sounds wonderful ) , the show is produced by Monkey Massacre Productions ( lovely name ) , the first season was released on Netflix on July 15, 2016 . the second , third & fourth seasons came in October 2017 , July 2019 and May & July 2022 in that order ( obviously ), in February 2022 the show was renewed for a fifth and final season ( shows you how successful this series is ) .
the series is set back in the 1980s ( good old times ) it centers around a small town residents in Hawkins Indiana ( amazing place not really ) the people get plagued by a hostile alternate dimension knows as the upside down , this happened after a nearby human experimentation lab opens a path between the upside down and the normal world ( is it normal still? NO ) , the series has a group of talented young actors such as Winona Ryder , David Harbour , Finn Wolfhard ( yes that is a real name ) Millie Bobby Brown , Gaten Matarazzo & Caleb McLaughlin who did an amazing job as far as i'm concerned , if you have not seen the series it's definitely worth it .
3: MONEY HEIST / LA CASA DE PAPEL( 792.2 million views )
Money Heist i a Spanish tv show that deals with mind games and strategies , it is one of the best paced shows according to a lot of people , it's a heist crime drama television series created by Alex Pina , the show fallows two long prepared heist led by the professor ( a character in the show , nothing to do with a certain bald guy in x-man ) , which take place in two banks , one on the Royal Mint of Spain the other on the Bank of Spain , the narrative is told from the perspective of one of the robbers Tokyo ( again nothing to do with the capital of japan it's a persons name ) in a real-time fashion and relies on flashbacks, hidden character motivations & time jumps ( sound interesting and involves a lot of thinking my favorite hobby), the series was originally intended as a limited series split into two parts of a combined 15 episodes , however late 2017 Netflix acquired the global streaming rights to the show & cut the series into 22 episodes and released them to the world , Netflix renewed the series in 2018 increasing the budget ( cause it was a massive success like everything else in this list ) they later released a documentary titled Money Heist the phenomenon (cause it was ) , the series received many awards such as the international Emmy Award for best drama series at the 46th international Emmy Awards .
4: BRIDGERTON (656.2 million views )
it's an American historical -romance tv show by Chris Van Dusen for Netflix , based on the book series by Julian Quinn , it orbit around the Bridgerton Family in a competitive world ; romance , drama , comedy and scandal this show has it all , I personally have not seen it but the reviews and the views speak for themselves ,in spite of the fact that the show is a massive success it did receive it's share of criticism , regarding it was historically inaccurate &and it being too slow in addition to the set design being terribly cheap looking .
the first season aired on December 25 ,2020 the second season on March 25 , 2022 ( they really love 25 ) , the series was renewed for a third and fourth season .starring Adjoa Andoh, Lorraine Ashbourne, Jonathan Baily , Ruby Barker , Sabrina bartlett & Harriet Cains ( don't know this people could't care less ) .
like i said i haven't seen the show and i don't really rely on another people opinions but reading some of the negative reviews didn't really help with the process of me watching it someday.
5: LUCIFER ( 569.5 million views )
Lucifer is a six season American urban fantasy Television series , that premiered on January 25 , 2016 and ended on September 10, 2021 . the show is developed by Tom Kapinos based on DC Comics Character created by Neil Gaiman ( wonderful name) , it was first introduced in the comic book series the Sandman and later became the protagonist of it's own series , the story orbits around Lucifer ( curse him ) who left hell for los Angeles ( if he only knew , he would have decided to stay ) where he supervise his own night club ( choking !!!!right xd ) named Lux and became a consultant to the los Angeles police department , the cast includes Lauren German as detective Chloe Decker ,Kevin Alejandro as detective Dan Espinoza & DB Woodside , Amenadiel , Aesley Ann brandit , the fist season did not go as well as expected receiving mixed reviews from critics other season were better rated , ELLIS'S performance received all the praise , despite having high viewership , Ratings remained consistently low throughout the series run on fox , it was later cancelled by Fox after three seasons in my 2018 then picked up by Netflix which continued the series for another three seasons while earning high viewership . personally i haven't seen the show a couple of my friends who had nothings to say but positive things about the show .
